Digital .pdf copy of my stove top Knopper Gall Ink recipe card. Use this method to make a witchy black ink.

Gall ink has been used for centuries - the Magna Carta was apparently written with it, and Jane Austen and the Brontës would have used it. Unlike a lot of natural dye inks, this one is permanent.

Don’t use this ink in cartridge pens as it’s corrosive. Instead, make your own writing or drawing tools from whittled sticks, sharpened bamboo or old wooden cutlery.

I also recommend you don’t filter this ink to death - it sometimes pays to leave some of the finer sediment in the mix as it will dry in beautiful ways - sometimes it even looks like wood knots!
